Cicada
Time to make a guitar again...
After several sketches and themes, this little noisy beast emerged...called Cicada
Ice birch body and flamed Maple neck with Wenge as center. 6mm bookmatch wenge top with mop, abalone and mahogany pommelé intarsia. Schaller Hannes bridge, two single coil Kinman pickups, his new Big Nine-O and Impersonator 54...
This is our rendering

Re: Cicada
Hi Peder,
very nice work! I like your wood-choice, wenge is a fascinating wood!
Do you have any negative experiences with the Hannes-bridge?
I've used it on my explorer, and the strings "dug in" the bridge saddels.
Until now, there are no tonal influences, but we'll see what happens in the future!
(We've talked about this Problem in my Explorer-thread: http://gitarrebassbau.de/viewtopic.php? ... ben#p44713 )
Best regards,
Philip

Thanks for the info Philip
These issues will be presented for Schaller, this week, and as soon as I get a reaction I will post it here.

Re: Cicada
Nice guitar and craftsmanship, although the body-design is...very similar to a Mayones Regius
I really like the inlays and the shape of the F-hole.
Did you make the knobs out of magonie pommelé as well?
Nice headstock....btw, it would be easier, if you´d load your photos up here, then we could see the complete guitar and don´t have to copy the image-adress and open it in another tab...

And You are sure that little Girls want an electric guitar that way? And not a skull? Or an exotic shape like the orchid bass?
Did You do some market research?

Although the cicada is a really pretty design I like the scarab idea much better.pp-guitars hat geschrieben:Yes! I would love to see Taylor Swift play this guitar....who knows!

Do You seriously believe that a woman will play rock and roll on stage with such a fanciful design? Please be careful not to stick with male projections on women's taste regarding guitars.
Maybe You offer two variants as options - e.g both the scarab idea (for "everyone") and the cicada for flower power pop friends.

Re: Cicada
Yes Bea, you are right, we might be carried away in the wrong direction....could be fun though!
or I could consider giving up my guitar-clothes-rack project...throw in a skull and a couple of strings, and use the Cicada for clothes hanger...just kidding
I do agree with you, but I think we'll just do this one for experience and offer the other one....IF anybody likes it...
With the possibilities we have, we can change designs/deco easily, but nobody cares...the market is totally dead here!
I'll make a new evaluation on this....are there any others judges, in the forum, that want to vote? please do
Best

Re: Cicada
Are You distributing Your instruments entirely through Your web pages?
IMO some sort of marketing beyond that would be necessary. And It will take a few years to have that up and growing.

Re: Cicada
Basicly through the web page, but we went to Copenhagen Guitarshow....lot of interest, but nothing happened. We don't push the project to hard, as we both have plenty to with our real jobs. This is a hobby, so we can wait to see what happens...we'll try a few other approaches this year, as I run out of space on the walls

Re: Cicada
in my humble opinion guitarist are more conservative than a catholic cloister in the centre of italy (no religious offence intented, could have also said a CSU council in Wildbad Kreuth )
Besides some "special ones" like Uli Teuffel or Jens Ritter (who are really completely different), all financial successful builders are basically building variations of LesPauls, PRSes, Teles or Strats...thats it...if you want to sell guitars, you have to build variations of these models.
Your guitars are masterpieces and I really envy your creativity, but in terms of selling, you're off the market...(as said, just my opinion)
cheers
Alex
P.S. Reminds me of my youth when girls told me: you are quite cute, but...
I didn't want to be cute, I wanted to...., well lets stay on topic

Re: Cicada
Answer from Schaller...
I've contacted Schaller through the importer in Denmark, and they haven't had complains about the issues with the saddle and template, and if anything like this happens, you should contact them for help, replacement or repair. They do have an excellent service! I have experienced that in the past,
BR Peder

Re: Cicada
Just got the Schaller Hannes Bridge in, and can continue after checking all measurements.
support pieces ar glued onto the neck. The fretboard contour is the first.
Kim at the setup. The safety Plexi screen has been removed a second for the shot!
A 12" radius are done with a ballbit
grooves for frets and inlays done
Outline for neck done from top. The angle for the head and truss channel was done prior to gluing on, the fretboard blank.
Made a decision on some of the inlay....
The Mahogany Pommele, we intended to use, at first, seemed to be too dark for the purpose....so I just remembered I had a big piece of Mazurbirch....sanded it and added Wax...WOW!
We also decided to make the finish with Bee's Wax only. The Wenge looks incredible when sanded fine an polished
We'll have a pause in building this project as Kim will take my camera, and head for a 3 weeks vacation in Thailand. I'm sure there will be a lot of good shots, and clips from our underwater GoPro, so I'll drop a link, when time comes in off topics!

Wow, very nice work Peder! Mazurbirch always reminds me of a knife i bought in my childhood in sweden, it has a hilt made of it. Is there any way of bying Mazurbirch outside of Skandinavia?

Re: Cicada
I am getting some bits and pieces from a woodpusher I ran into years ago. He is into flooring, kitchentops etc., but he has some connections to sawmills over northeast, so once in a while he pops up with strange things!
I found some really nice 2" walnut boards recently....up to 50cm, and a couple of 1" Rio Palisander(rosewood) boards.
There's always a possibility to mail me if a one needs a piece of something! I'am stocking certain things to accommodate our projects
